IMBB #19 - I Can’t Believe I Ate Vegan!

Vegan Good - Meat BadIMBB #19 has been announced and the host is Sam over at Becks&Posh. She is challenging all of us to be vegan for a day - between September 26th and September 30th 2005 to be exact.

Now, if, like me, you were wondering "so what exactly do vegan's do?" Sam has a helpful link. Moving beyond the quote about:

"Veganism is compassion in action. It is a philosophy, diet, and lifestyle.

Veganism is an advanced way of living in accordance with Reverence for Life, recognizing the rights of all living creatures, and extending to them the compassion, kindness, and justice exemplified in the Golden Rule."

We find out that:

"Vegans exclude flesh, fish, fowl, dairy products (animal milk, butter, cheese, yogurt, etc.), eggs, honey, animal gelatin, and all other foods of animal origin."

Furthermore vegans also exclude:

"Veganism also excludes animal products such as leather, wool, fur, and silk in clothing, upholstery, etc."

Which I only mention because I would love to see and IMBB which had at least one of the above in the recipe :-)

Anyway, back to veganism with regards to cooking - it really isn't as bad as I thought it might be. In fact I am probably more vegan than not vegan... except maybe the cheese... I like cheese... Ragusano, a nice fresh provoletta, a mozarella... OK - I am out of it. Vegan - vegan - think vegan. In fact in a display of commitment I will try to make the entire day vegan (i.e. no milk in my coffee when I wake up or cookies... :-( ), although of course Sam just required one vegan recipe.

Finally - an important technological innovation is being introduced into IMBB. In order to make things easier and, I really think this is a great idea, Sam is suggest we all tag our posts with the IMBB#19 Technorati Tag... what? how? who? where?. Just head over to Sam's post and all will be clear.

Hi Ronald
Thanks for the great write up.
I just wanted mention, that people don't have to be a vegan for a whole day. Anything from just one dish to a dinner party or even a days worth of vegan meals - all reiterations will be happily accepted.
