January 2009 First Thursday

January 2009:

THE THEME: Challenge yourself. Yes, everyone loves dip and mushrooms stuffed with cheese. But I don't want you yanking Betty Crocker off the shelf at the last minute just to come up with something. I want you to streeeeetch.

THE DATE: The first Thursday is New Years' Day, so we're postponing by a week. First Thursday will be January 8th. Entries must be posted by noon on Sunday the 10th. Roundup goes up the morning of the 11th.

THE RULES: Are always found at the bottom of this page. Please remember that First Thursdays are about using and learning from our recipe collections, and make sure that your entries are based on a book or magazine. There are lots of other events out there for original or "inspired by" recipes, this one is about testing the mettle of our cookbooks.

The Lowdown:

* The first Thursday of the month, you make a dish of your choosing from your cookbook or magazine collection.

* Write it up, and send the writeup to firstthursdays at thursdaynightsmackdown dot com by noon the following Sunday. If you don’t have a blog, send the details in an email. If you have a blog, send:
o Your name
o Your blog’s name
o Your dish’s name
o The cookbook/magazine you used (and tell us what you thought of it)
o The permalink to your entry
o A 150×150 pic of the dish (optional, but REQUIRED if you want a pic to appear with your entry)

* Mention the event and link to TNS in your entry, so more people can come play along.

* The roundup will be posted 10am the following Monday for all to enjoy.
